Emergency Room – part 2

September 29, 2008 at 9:27 am (Uncategorized)

Well, we certainly had an interesting weekend!  Friday around noon or so I get a call from Kristin and the boys are crying in the background.  Well, she begins to explain to me the misadventures they had been having that morning.  First, Kristin was walking downstairs with a laundry basket.  On the first step, she slipped and skidded on her but all the way down the stairs.  Ouch!  She has several bruises but her biggest injury is on her tailbone.  It really hurts her.  Well, not 5 minutes later she hears a piercing scream coming from Will’s room.  Well, he and Asher were in his room and he had managed to pull his dresser down on top of himself!  shoulder.JPGSo, both he and Asher were screaming, although Will took the brunt of the hit.  Asher managed to be out of the way of the fall.  Will seemed okay but hit shoulder really hurt.  It was really sensitive. So, I came home and tried to help.  That night Kristin and I went out to eat with some friends but Will seemed to be okay with the babysitter.  However, he couldn’t sleep that night.  He was crying and couldn’t move.  So, after visiting with friends on Saturday I finally took him to the emergency room.  Well, it turned out that yes indeed, he had fractured his clavicle (see picture).  Of course, there isn’t much they can do.  They gave us a sling but he refuses to wear it.  Mostly he kind of cradles his arm next to his body.  They did give us some Tylenol with Codeine and that helps him sleep and helps his mood a bit.  So, that is the second trip to the ER in a few weeks.  I am the lone duck without an injury.  Hopefully the trend stops there!  But really, everyone is okay…we are just a little worse for ware at the moment.

Everything else seems to be okay.  We had a nice, sunny weekend (aside from the injuries).  I am playing the guitar for primary so I have been practicing that a lot.  Asher is getting a runny nose but I think he is okay too.  Some friends who are PCS’ing back to the states gave us their lawn furniture so that is nice too.  Work has been busy but fun.  I may get to go to Italy and England here soon.  I am definitely going back to Turkey in November and then I’ll be back in the states!  Can’t wait for that!

Update

September 25, 2008 at 8:19 am (Uncategorized)

Well, Oktoberfest is here and the beer and pork consummation is at its full!  We actually had a little party in our small town right next to the house.  We didn’t wind up going but it was cool to watch and see people have fun.

2637_443_309.jpgNothing much has been going on recently though for me to get up off my lazy arse and actually post something.  Both the boys are doing really well.  We don’t even think about Asher’s skull crack anymore.  Will has good weeks and bad weeks with the potty training.  He can go a week without peeing his pants and then there are days where he goes in his pants 4 times in a day.  Its madness, but that is the joys of potty training.

We did have a fun Friday.  We went to the Ramstein bazaar.  Basically it is a bunch of vendors from all over Europe who mark up their prices and make you think you are getting a good deal.  I suppose you don’t actually have to travel to Turkey for a rug or travel to Poland for pottery, but still…way expensive!  But, we spent our fair share of money and had some fun.  Then we went to a Mexican place in town….I know, a Mexican restaurant in Germany…weird.  But, it was good and the boys actually ate with us.  Then we released them to the play room they had in the back of the restaurant to release some energy.  It was fun.

Kristin has taken up piano lessons again and is enjoying that.  We moved furniture around so the boys now have their own play room that is cool.  We moved our office too so we have a nursery for when the baby comes.  So far everything is good with the baby.  No names yet.  I think we will start pondering names once we know the sex.  Speaking of, congrats to Adam and Anjilla on the new baby!  Can’t wait to meet Blade in a few more weeks!

Saarburcken Zoo and other fun stuff

September 5, 2008 at 4:18 pm (Uncategorized)

Well, I am horrible at keeping up this post.  This happened last weekend and I am finally getting to it.  So!  Last Saturday we went to the Saarbrucken Zoo.  It was a lot of fun.  As you can see from the pic we got up close an personal with the gorillas.  That was really cool.  They are so much bigger than I had envisioned.  It was funny because Asher got pretty spooked with the gorilla so close and he started whimpering a little.  Overall it was good time.  They had tons of monkeys.  Check out the video page.  I have uploaded some of the best moments.  The other funny part was the sea lion.  It was really showing off.  Watch the video.  Will is rolling with laughter!

Will and I went to the fish store last Friday and got some stuff for our fish tank.  I am starting the salt water fish tank again, except this is a little 3 gallon tank so the initial invest isn’t nearly as much as it had been with the 55 gallon tank.  Anyway, the water levels are finally at a livable level so we went to get some invertebrates.  We got a cleaner shrimp like Jacques in Finding Nemo, a little red star fish and 2 snails.  Will loves to go in and find Jacques swimming around.  I think this next weekend we will go and buy a Nemo fish.  Since the tank is so small we have to keep the bio-load to a minimum so we’ll see how that goes.  I am excited to have a real fish though.  Then we can start buying corals and make it really a marine system.

Monday we had a fairly relaxing labor day.  Just had some friends over, played a lot of Nintendo and grilled some brautwurst.  Nothing fancy but really fun.  German food can be good, especially if you like pork!

Nothing much has happened this week and we look to have a fairly relaxing weekend as well.  It has been fairly gloomy out and kind of cold!  I can’t believe Fall is almost here, which here means that it is almost Winter!  Oh well.

We do have some big news though…we are all coming home for Thanksgiving!  YAH!  So, we will be hanging with you guys and be able to particiapte in the baby blessings and all that.  We are really looking forward to it since it has been a long time since I have seem some of you!  We got a great price on tickets too so we are stoked.  Anyway, that’s all I have for now!
